With its 3 m² cassette, the CT 193 is currently the largest evaporator plate available on the market worldwide. The CT 193 is a Free flow plate evaporator with a free 4.5 mm flow gap on the vapour side and a 7.5 mm free flow gap on the product side. Its maximum connecting dimensions are DN 500 for the heating steam inlet and DN 600 for the vapour/product mixture outlet. The plate pack can be extended by integrating additional cassettes as with any conventional plate heat exchanger. The maximum heating surface per single unit is 1200 m².
Due to its special flow gap geometry, the CT 193 is particularly well suited for concentrating products forming deposits and containing solid particles, with large vapour volumes.
When comparing the k-values of tube-falling-film and plate-falling-film evaporators, plate evaporators have a k-value which is about twice that of tube-type evaporators (2000 - 4000 kcal/m²h°C), i.e. 1000 m² of plate evaporator surface equal 2000 m² of tube-type evaporator surface. When processing products with a higher viscosity, the k-value of plates exceeds that of tubes even further.
When using the plate evaporator as a booster, i.e. as a surface extension of a Robert evaporator, the space above the heating chamber can be used as a separator.
The pressure drop of the CT 193 is below 0.1 bar in almost all applications, making an effective pressure difference of approx. 0.5 bar sufficient for conveying the product from stage to stage without an intermediate pump, even when the unit is obviously fouled.
The CT 193, made of plate material 1.4571 and equipped with EPDM gaskets, is suitable for a temperature range from 50°C to 140°C and for a large number of applications. Excellent operating results from the chemical and the sugar industries are available. |
